Always pick up your ball with two hands. It will ease the strain on your back and lessen your fatigue allowing you to have more energy to bowl with.
Make sure that part of the ball weight is supported in your opposite hand. Gripping and picking up your ball with both hands will allow you to keep your bowling arm relaxed, an essential key to good ball placement and a good swing.

One customary method of choosing ball weight is to choose a ball that is 10% of your body weight give or take a pound. Test different weights with house balls until you get one you feel comfortable with. Be sure to bowl many games with a ball at that weight. When you have your own ball made be sure it matches the weight of the house bowling ball you’ve been using.
Use the wrong bowling ball weight and it could throw your game off.

Balance is one of THE essential skills for excellent bowling at every skill level. Being balanced ‘at the line’ is the key to power and control in your release. The secret is to remember to slide into a deep knee bend on your last step. It also helps to actually extend your free leg and free arm out in the other direction of your body as you release the ball.

Practice holding the ball at a 45 degree angle. Your bowling hand should be a little to the side of the ball and the little fingers of each hand will be touching. Your elbows should be in close to the body and relaxed. Relax your shoulders also. Correct hand position is one of the marks of a skillful bowler and will give you more control over the ball.

It’s essential to have a relaxed grip on the ball. This is the real secret to a free flowing armswing! Relax your grip more and more until it feels like you’re barely hanging onto the ball. This will help you get over any fear of dropping the ball. Keep your fingers, and especially your thumb, relaxed throughout your entire swing.
When you have your ball drilled, make sure the fit is snug enough so that you can keep your fingers and thumb relaxed at all times.
