Relax your grip more and more until it feels like you’re barely hanging onto the ball. This will help you get over any fear of dropping the ball. Keep your fingers, and especially your thumb, relaxed throughout your entire swing.

When you have your ball drilled, make sure the fit is snug enough so that you can keep your fingers and thumb relaxed at all times.

All of the ten pin bowling tips I’ve posted on this website and many, many more bowling tips can be found within the pages of The Ultimate Bowling Guide book in a very easy to read format. I’ve printed a copy and keep it in the car so I can read the odd bowling tip prior to our Thursday night game with my friends. I have a 5 minute ritual in the parking lot, I take a few minutes to read two or three bowling tips just prior to entering the bowling alley, this keeps the ideas fresh in my mind and it’s made a HUGE difference to my game.

If after reading my site you want to improve your game even further consider purchasing the Bowling Tips book above, it improved my game so much I was able to create this website about 10 pin bowling tips

It’s not just about choosing the right bowling ball size, it’s amazing how little things like tying the laces of your bowling shoes correctly can have on your game or how choosing the right lane within the bowling alley can have a psychological effect on your game that can add 5 points to your average just due to being more relaxed!

To create the most fluid approach timing, concentrate on balancing your body and on creating a build up of momentum. Here are some elements to experiment with:

On your first step, bring the bowling ball back in alignment with your bowling arm side foot, concentrating on keeping it over the foot.

On your second step, let the ball swing back naturally. Forget about your feet and just feel the swing. It’s as if that foot concentration times the ball into it’s swing.

On your third step stay on your push off foot for a long time…waiting for the ball to come through.

Finally set your sliding foot underneath you as you release the ball and slide into your balanced delivery position.

Experiment with a short pre-step in which the ball stays almost motionless.

Count in a speeding up rhythm and cadence (1…2-3-4) in order to get yourself to start slowly on steps one and two …then speed up on steps three and four.

When the 10 pin (or 7 for left handers) is not snapping back but just flops into the channel …then you know it’s time to make an adjustment for carry down.

Carry down is the process that happens when oil moves from the heads (the first 15 feet of the lane) to the midlane (next 25 to 30 feet). The oil is stretched towards the pins by balls moving over the boards. Carry down will delay your balls hook into the pocket.

Ways to adjust:

1. Move your feet back a little from your regular starting position.

2. Move your starting position a little to the side.

3. Move your starting position back and to one side.

The key is to look for the lazy 10 (or 7) pin and when you see it…always adjust for carry down.

Determine to have extraordinary master level concentration when you bowl. Remember that concentration is not holding your mind on one thing. It is directing your attention within a determined sphere of things. Thus… choose 3 to 5 to 7 things you wish to have your attention on when you bowl.

You can write them on a list and keep them in your pocket if you wish. Practice bowling for longer and longer periods of time with your attention moving from one of those things on your list to another.

You can condition your consciousness to remain within a predetermined set of criteria. This is the true secret to concentration. Don’t make the mistake of trying to hold your mind in one place. It is not possible. The mind’s tendency is to move. Control the movement within the sphere (list) of things you choose!

When you notice your mind has wondered from your predetermined list of things, gently and uneventfully bring it back to one of the things on your list and simply put it back into motion on the list. The key here is GENTLY and UNEVENTFULLY.

Practice this, and before long, if they are not already doing so, people will comment on your extraordinary level of concentration. Guaranteed!
